DIG Showit Rocked!
Man it's been a busy week here at Showit Fast! But it's the kind of busy that just makes us love what we do. This week we had the first ever Designer Insight Group (DIG). What is DIG you ask? Well, we had a bunch of designers out there using Showit to build websites. They are awesome websites, but we knew there was so much more in Showit they were not using. We also really wanted to talk directly with designers to listen and make Showit even better.
Being the first DIG we were unsure of the response and what designers would be looking for. The week completely exceeded our expectation. We had a killer time and the interaction from the designers was awesome. Thanks to the mad Showit skills of Todd and Brett, the designers had the opportunity to drink from the fire hose for two days and learn about some great features in Showit. We had some fun "ah-ha" moments and some funny "ah-ha" moments. During one of the sessions Todd double-clicked on an image from the floating media library to add it to the stage, which no-body (including me) knew you could do. Everybody asked, "When did you add that feature?" I suppose it's the small things in life that matter.
One of the really cool things we announced was the Showit Wiki. We are adding a bit more content before officially launching it, but it's coming very soon! We are using the same back end system as Wikipedia, so hopefully everyone will find it easy to navigate. I'm really stoked because it allows our community of users to continue and help build the learning that happens. Of course Showit will be cranking away and adding new topics all the time as well.

In traditional fashion everyone bunked up at The Freedom House and we had a great time. We are so grateful to the designers that joined us and can't wait for the next DIG Showit. It could be coming to a city near you! If you're a designer and would be interested in joining at DIG Showit shoot me an email.

Showit Updated!
Tonight we launched an update to Showit to introduce a few new features and squash some minor bugs. If you haven't already... open up Showit and you should be prompted to install this latest update.
And here are some of the other things you'll be happy to know we've fixed:
We hope you enjoy this update and let us know if you run into any issues.
Thanks again!
![]() |
![]() | One of the new features added gives you the ability to control the latest galleries with any text or image you want to. Now you can advance the images in a gallery... advance the thumbnails... play... or pause... with whatever layer best fits your site. In the Link tab for any layer... check the Action radio button... match up the target with your thumb gallery and display area... choose the action for when the user clicks... and you're done! |
| In addition to that, we've also added some new options for the galleries. You can choose to hide the current thumb gallery controls if you're going to take advantage of the new options mentioned above. And you now have the ability to use a highlight color that will highlight the selected thumbnail and also highlight any thumbnail you mouse over. | ![]() |
![]() | Another feature added that will definitely speed up organizing your site is the ability to quickly add blank style groups and pages right from the pages panel. Make sure to right click on a style group in the pages panel and you'll see the new options in the displayed menu. |
And here are some of the other things you'll be happy to know we've fixed:
- Scrolling bug for organizing lists of images in a gallery
- Background bug with style groups
- Scroll bar issues on smaller monitors
- Background editing on inherited backgrounds
- "Copy URL" uses HTML instead if deep linking for improved SEO results
We hope you enjoy this update and let us know if you run into any issues.
Thanks again!

Webinar Playback - New Gallery Features
Yesterday we had a great webinar on how the new Gallery Widgets really enhance the ability to customize your site. The new galleries offer much more flexibility in displaying your images with much less work. Here are a few highlights of the new galleries features.
- You can now have your page background within a Style Group feed from a gallery. This means if you want your background to transition while playing a slideshow you can do this with a single page, versus a bunch of pages.
- Display multiple galleries on the same page pulling from the same or different series of images. This is a nice feature to replace the traditional gallery launch page, allowing you to replace the static images with galleries.
- Seamlessly transition from gallery to gallery without the display area requiring a reload on your page. This creates a clean transition from gallery to gallery when viewing your website.

Also, keep an eye out for a Showit update that adds more features to the galleries widget coming soon. That update will include some cool features on embedding controls for the galleries. As always, software updates are free and will be included as soon as you confirm installing the new version.

Webinar Playback - Building a Client Site
We had a great webinar last Friday with over 50 people on how a photographer can build a client website from scratch! Thanks to everyone that joined in because we had some really great questions and interactions.
I realized after the webinar it probably was a misleading title as some of you had never used Showit. If you joined us and are new to Showit I'm sure you felt a little overwhelmed with how fast topics got covered, so I apologize for that. We do have some great Showit Tutorials you can watch that will guide you through how to setup your site.
For those that did not make the webinar you can watch it (and all of the webinars) via the Tutorials page.

There were some requests to see the final published site created during the webinar so we've left that up to check out at www.jasminejd.showitsite.com.

Interview with Dave Cross Online
We were pretty stoked when Dave Cross from dave cross online did a blog post about Showit, and then even more stoked when he asked to interview DJ on his blog. For those of you that don't know Dave he is the Director of Curriculum for the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), so he is a pretty smart guy...and he's a pretty nice guy.
You can check out the interview here.
