Customizing your blog and SmugMug page has never been easier! We had a great webinar earlier this week showing in detail how to change your Blogger blog, Wordpress blog, and SmugMug page.

Part of the reason it was so great was because Showit guru Nick Haskins of Spilled Milk Designs shared is wisdom about WordPress and SmugMug.

As promised we will be updating ShowitWiki with step by step instructions in working with Blogger, WordPress, and SmugMug. As a quick side note, you will notice the instructions for Blogger are a bit different than what we covered in the webinar. We will be updating the wiki to include both instructions based on what you want to do with your blogger page.

Webinar Playback - SEO w/ Tofurious

Last week we set a record at Showit for the highest attended webinar! I'd like to say this is only because of how much ya'll love Showit, but the reality is I think our stellar guest presenter was a HUGE draw. Tofurious lived up to his SEO Guru title and rocked the house sharing some really great knowledge about SEO for photographers.

Now, you may be wondering why we are so far behind in posting the webinar playback. We were really disappointed to discover some major problems with the recording and just about all of the audio of Lawrence is messed up. In response to this we went through and did a full text replication of the webinar in question and answer format, which you can see in this post. This took some time to get done, but we feel it actually may be more useful than just the recording.

Lastly, Dan O'Hara asked a question about what is networking really about, at which point I completely botched a two quotes. I told Todd to remove that part of the video...he refused. In an effort to redeem myself here is what I was trying to remember.

Webinar Playback - New Gallery Features

Yesterday we had a great webinar on how the new Gallery Widgets really enhance the ability to customize your site. The new galleries offer much more flexibility in displaying your images with much less work. Here are a few highlights of the new galleries features.

• You can now have your page background within a Style Group feed from a gallery. This means if you want your background to transition while playing a slideshow you can do this with a single page, versus a bunch of pages.
• Display multiple galleries on the same page pulling from the same or different series of images. This is a nice feature to replace the traditional gallery launch page, allowing you to replace the static images with galleries.
  
• Seamlessly transition from gallery to gallery without the display area requiring a reload on your page. This creates a clean transition from gallery to gallery when viewing your website.

Also, keep an eye out for a Showit update that adds more features to the galleries widget coming soon. That update will include some cool features on embedding controls for the galleries. As always, software updates are free and will be included as soon as you confirm installing the new version.

Webinar Playback - Building a Client Site

We had a great webinar last Friday with over 50 people on how a photographer can build a client website from scratch! Thanks to everyone that joined in because we had some really great questions and interactions.

I realized after the webinar it probably was a misleading title as some of you had never used Showit. If you joined us and are new to Showit I'm sure you felt a little overwhelmed with how fast topics got covered, so I apologize for that. We do have some great Showit Tutorials you can watch that will guide you through how to setup your site.

Showit 2.0 Widgets Webinar Playback

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Showit widgets webinar yesterday. We've uploaded the video to the Showit Tutorials for your viewing pleasure. If you have any questions on how to use the widgets this is a great new reference.

We've added a cool new feature to the recorded webinars by including some markers for you to quickly reference specific material for play back. Note the arrows with text at the bottom of this screen shot.
Also, remember that we have another webinar tomorrow hosted by DJ on building a website from scratch. You can register here. We encourage everyone to join. Our example will be how a wedding photographer can quickly build a basic site for a bride and groom. This can be a great added service that you can include as part of unique offering to your customers. But we will be covering all the basics of starting a website from scratch, so if are not a photographer and you want to build a site but haven't started hopefully this will be a great opportunity get you started!
